South Africa from Jenny in Scotland

Good morning from a very foggy Edinburgh! Here's a photo of my packing for the daily journal. "On Wednesday evening, the 8 of us ,who are going to work in Goboti, met and divided up all the gifts for the school and young children in Goboti. This is my packing, with some of the School Posters from Pictorial Charts Ltd (the teachers won't believe their eyes!), biscuits and footballs, all thanks to A Ray of Hope. They will, indeed, bring A Ray of hope to Goboti Village. I will have a big story to tell the villagers about the real Ray of Hope! Thank you!" On with the work - still lots to do!

A Ray of Hope, UNESCO Youth Ambassador for the Culture of Peace

A Ray of Hope is not a charity and we try as far as possible never to assist in currency form, but rather prefer to investigate what people, especially children, need throughout the world and to deliver that item directly into their hands. This avoids many of the pitfalls that exist in the world of giving.
We believe that diversity of culture is enrichment and actively look for and promote friendships ..... if we can assist our friends we do.We have little difficulty in obtaining certain educational supplies and to date have distributed over $9 million worth. Some of the smaller items, although easily purchased, we feel it is to the benefit of everyone that those who wish can assist us and in doing so know that they have helped directly.
No member of A Ray of Hope receives financial gain of any kind but the true satisfaction of knowing that, at very least, we are attempting to make a difference.

We have had a request to inform readers how they can become involved in a Ray of Hope. Anyone who believes cultural diversity is enrichment, enjoys making friends and assisting when one can is welcome to contribute to our work. There is rarely a need to ask for financial support except possibly within the bounds of individual projects. Feel free to contact me on don@unesco.co.uk.
