EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS
IN THE UNITED KINGDOM OF
GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN
IRELAND
April 26, 2011
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Belarusian Embassy let me convey my most cordial gratitude to those who by their involvement in the commemorative events marking the
25th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster show their solidarity with the people of the Republic of Belarus severely affected by this manmade calamity.
Twenty five years have elapsed since the gruesome catastrophe of Chernobyl. However, the lowering of negative social and psychological consequences of the disaster remains a priority concern of the President and the Government of the Republic of Belarus.
International cooperation is a vital complement to the important long-term work.
In partnership with our friends from all over the world we can be much more effective in facilitating recovery and sustainable development in Chernobyl-affected communities.
In Belarus, we welcome every step aimed at restoring normal ways of life in the affected areas and see it as a key to minimizing the consequences of Chernobyl in the long-term context.
And today, on behalf of the Belarusian people and the Government of my country I would like to express sincere appreciation of the inavaluable support extended to Belarus.
We cannot stress enough the importance of UK charity endeavours to bring vital assistance and opportunity, every single one being a true gift of the friendly British people. Big or small, every charity is doing great things and this is highly appreciated.
It appears a great deal is shared by our two nations, generating compassion and eagerness to build a network of friendship across the countries, whatever the distance.
Being confident that Belarus and Britain have numerous prospects for lasting cooperation, I believe that the friendship between our two states and peoples will grow stronger.
I wish you, my dear friends, your relatives and beloved ones happiness and prosperity.
May God bless you all!
yours respectfully,
Aleksandr Mikhnevich
Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus
